Our Best Tips for Correcting a Slide on Ice

Your friends here at BRENNER CAR CREDIT want to remind you to be safe on the roads this winter. When driving in icy conditions, sliding is a major concern. Before you get on the road this winter, make sure you have good tires with plenty of tread left on them. When there is ice on the roadway, drive slower than 45 mph, and leave plenty of space between you and other cars.

If your car starts sliding, follow our slide safety tips to correct it:

  • Do not slam your brakes. This will be your immediate response, but it will only make the situation worse.
  • Lift your foot gently off of the gas pedal.
  • Look at a point a ways ahead in the direction you want to go.
  • Turn your wheel just a little bit in the same direction your back tires are sliding.
  • Do not panic.
